Lilienthal was founded by nuns of the Cistercian order in1232, the monastery church St. Marien in the historical city centre is a reminder. Today, Lilienthal is a modern community with over 16.500 citizens between Wümme and Wörpe.
Not only the close proximity to
Bremen made Lilienthal to a popular residential area and favourite nearby recreation resort. Surrounded by meadows and moors, Lilienthal has a lot to offer.
The wonderful countryside invites walks and extensive cycle tours far away from traffic, the local gastronomy is recommended. Here more or less any kind of sport can be enjoyed.

Recommended is a walk through the community with the old village Trupe. There you'll find also the carriage museum that shows lovingly restored vehicles, the Truper chapel and at the school museum old school days come alive.
Lilienthal has also a lot to offer on the cultural sector. Visit the galleries or the permanent art exhibitions at the town hall. A visit to the
Freilichtbühne Lilienthal e.V. at the Höge will be unforgettable. The Lilienthal museums are also parts of the cultural offer. Literature, art and music are being offered in various kinds at the culture centre Murkens Hof.
