CHRONICLE
The name "Sandbeck" was first recorded in the year 1233. It is not only the name of the family but most of all the description of the firstly dependent Monastery Osterholz and later independent rural estate of national rang. The name had importance for over seven centuries especially for the economy history of the area of the present town Osterholz-Scharmbeck. Of course the buildings changed in kind number and looks during the centuries. So was, during the heydays of the estate's manor system in the year 1575, the main house called 'Manor House' completely renewed. It was preserved like this to the present day and is considered one the few still original estates in the Weser-Elbe area in the style of the Weser-Renaissance.
During the course of its history - mainly in the last 100 years - Gut Sandbeck changed ownership several times. The last owner from the family Sandbeck died in the year 1855. But the former big estate was so deep in debt that one had to sell bits off fast.
The town bought the rest area of the estate in the year 1975. Professor Müller-Menckens, Bremen, designed a new room concept. Correspondently the manor was restored first and inaugurated in the year 1981.
